When someone scans your VahanQR sticker and sends a message, VahanQR tells you straight away — by email, and on WhatsApp when it is switched on. On a privacy plan your emergency contacts are told too. Every message is also saved in the **Messages** tab of your dashboard.

## Who gets each alert

| Channel | Plan 1 — No Privacy | Plan 2 — Light / Plan 3 — Strict |
|---|---|---|
| **Email** to your account email | Yes | Yes |
| **WhatsApp** to your mobile | Yes, when MJX has it on | Yes, when MJX has it on |
| **SMS** to your emergency contacts | No | Yes |
| **WhatsApp** to your emergency contacts | No | Yes, when MJX has it on |
| **Messages** tab on your dashboard | Yes | Yes |

The email subject is "QR Scan Alert — Vehicle *your plate*". The WhatsApp alert carries your plate, the reason chosen, the message, and the sender's name and phone number.

## What a message contains

The person scanning must give:

- **Your name** and **Your phone number** (10 digits)
- a message of up to 500 characters

They can also pick one reason under **WHY ARE YOU CONTACTING? (optional)**:

- The lights of this car is on.
- The car is in no parking.
- The car is getting towed.
- The window or car is open.
- Something wrong with this car.

Because the sender's phone number is included, you can call them back.

## How to read your messages

1. [Sign in](~/login).
2. Open the **Messages** tab. A number beside it shows how many you have.
3. Each message shows the plate, the vehicle type and model, the date and time, and the full text with "From: *name* (*phone*)" and "Reason: …".

If you have none yet, you see "No messages received yet. When someone scans your QR and sends a message, it'll appear here."

## How to make sure alerts reach you

- **Add an email** to your account. Email alerts are the one channel that is always on. If you signed up without one, contact [support](support) to add it.
- **Add emergency contacts** at sign-up, and choose Light or Strict Privacy so they are alerted too.
- Check your spam folder for the first alert, and mark it "Not spam".

> [!NOTE]
> The dashboard has no screen for changing your email or emergency contacts after sign-up. To change them, [contact support](support).

## Who can see messages

Only you, in your own dashboard. A society never sees messages sent to its residents.

## Tips

- Reply quickly. Most messages are about parking, and the sender is often waiting next to your vehicle.
- If someone sends abuse or spam, note the time and [tell support](support).

## Questions people ask

### Am I told every time someone scans my sticker?

You are alerted when someone sends a message from the scan page. A scan with no message only adds to the scan count shown on the scan page.

### Do my emergency contacts get my messages?

On Light and Strict Privacy, yes — by SMS and by WhatsApp when it is switched on. On No Privacy, only you are alerted.

### How many messages can a stranger send?

Three messages to one vehicle from the same network in 10 minutes. After that they see "Too many messages. Wait 10 minutes."

### How long are messages kept?

The **Messages** tab shows your 50 most recent messages.
