# Call a vehicle owner from a VahanQR sticker — direct and masked calls

On a VahanQR scan page, the **Call Owner** button works in one of three ways, chosen by the owner's privacy plan: a **direct call** that shows the owner's number, a **masked call** that hides both numbers, or no call at all if a Strict Privacy owner has run out of minutes.

## Which kind of call will I get?

## How to make a direct call

Press [[Call Owner]]. Your phone's dialler opens with the owner's number. Press call.

## How to make a masked call

1. Press [[Call Owner]] (Masked · Verify plate).
2. The window says "Please Verify the plate number of the vehicle." It shows the plate with the end hidden, like `MP09XY####`.
3. Look at the real number plate and type its last 4 characters in **Last 4 Digits**.
4. Type **Your Phone** — your 10-digit mobile number.
5. Press [[Setup Masked Call]].

> You see "Call initiated. You will receive a call shortly from *number*." Answer that call — VahanQR then connects you to the owner. Neither of you sees the other's real number.

## How to make a browser call

When MJX has switched it on, the masked-call window also shows **Browser Call** (marked as cheaper). It uses your browser's microphone and speaker instead of a phone line.

1. Type the **Last 4 Digits** first, then press [[Browser Call]].
2. Enter your 10-digit mobile number and press [[Continue →]]. "Your number is only used for call tracking. It is never shown to the owner."
3. Press [[Allow Mic & Start Call]] and allow the microphone when the browser asks.
4. The screen shows **Connecting…**, then **Ringing…**, then **Connected** with a timer. Press the red button to hang up.

If the browser call fails, press [[Use Phone Call Instead]] to go back to a normal masked call.

## Calling emergency contacts

Below the call button you may see **Emergency 1**, **Emergency 2** and **Emergency 3**. They work like **Call Owner**: direct on No Privacy (or Light with no minutes), masked with a plate check otherwise. When the call is masked, the contact's number never reaches your phone. ## Common messages

| "The number is busy. Try again in a moment." | The owner is on another call — try again or send a message |

## For owners: what a call costs you

Masked calls and browser calls use your [call minutes](privacy/call-minutes), rounded up to the next whole minute. Direct calls use none.

## Questions people ask

### Why do I have to enter the last 4 digits of the plate?

It proves you are near the vehicle. It stops people from calling owners from a photo of a sticker.

### Will I be charged for the masked call?

The call uses the owner's call minutes. You receive a normal incoming call from VahanQR's number.

### Which number will call me?

The success message names it — "You will receive a call shortly from …".

### The button says "Call Unavailable". What can I do?

The owner is on Strict Privacy and has no call minutes left. Send a message instead — it reaches the owner by email.
