Vehicle verification with VAHAN — insurance and PUC on your QR page

How VahanQR fills state and city from your number plate, and how VAHAN verification adds a verified tick with insurance and PUC dates.

VahanQR does two things with your number plate. It always reads the state, city and RTO office from the plate itself, so those fields fill in by themselves. And, when MJX has switched it on, it can verify the vehicle with VAHAN, the government vehicle register, to add a verified tick and your insurance and PUC dates.

#State and city from the plate

When you finish typing a plate on the sign-up form or the + Add Vehicle form, a small box shows where it is registered, for example Madhya Pradesh · Indore with the RTO code. State and City fill in for you. If you change the plate, they update too — but anything you typed yourself is never overwritten.

This needs no button, works for every Indian state, and works even when VAHAN is unreachable.

#How to verify a vehicle with VAHAN

You must be signed in. On the sign-up form, before your account exists, you see "You can verify this vehicle with VAHAN from your dashboard after you sign up."

Where to clickDashboardMy VehiclesVerify this vehicle with VAHAN
  1. Type the number plate on the + Add Vehicle form, or find an existing vehicle card.
  2. Press Verify this vehicle with VAHAN. In some setups the details are fetched as soon as you finish typing, and there is no button to press.
  3. If you see A few more details, fill in exactly what it asks for, as printed on your RC:
    • Chassis Number (from your RC)
    • Owner Name (as printed on RC)
    • Aadhaar Number (12 digits)
  4. Press Verify Now.

VahanQR never shows the RC owner's name, chassis or engine number, or the policy and PUC certificate numbers in the browser — not even to you. They stay on VahanQR's servers.

#What the badges mean

BadgeMeaning
✓ Insurance valid / ✓ PUC validValid, with the "Till" date
⚠ Insurance expiring / ⚠ PUC expiring30 days or fewer left
✕ Insurance expired / ✕ PUC expiredAlready expired, with the date
Not on recordVAHAN gave no date for this document

If the name on the RC differs from the name you entered, you see a note — "The vehicle is verified either way."

#How to refresh insurance and PUC dates

After you renew insurance or PUC, press Re-check insurance & PUC on the vehicle card. You see "Saved to this vehicle. Re-check any time after renewing."

#What scanners see

On the scan page a verified vehicle shows Verified with VAHAN and the insurance and PUC badges. It shows dates only — never the policy number, the PUC certificate number or your RC name. An unverified vehicle shows the Insurance answer you chose (Active or Expired/None).

#Limits

LimitMessage you see
5 checks per vehicle per hour from the dashboard"Too many verification attempts for this vehicle. Please try again in an hour."
6 lookups per plate per hour"Too many lookups for this vehicle number. Please try again in an hour."
15 lookups per network per hour"Too many lookups. Please try again in an hour."

#If verification fails

Your sign-up is never blocked. The state and city stay filled in from the plate — "you can finish registering and verify later." See Troubleshooting for each error message.

#Questions people ask

Do I have to verify my vehicle?

No. Verification is optional. You can register and use VahanQR without it.

Does VahanQR store my Aadhaar number?

No. If the government service asks for it, it is sent for that one check only and is never stored or shown to anyone who scans.

What does a scanner see after I verify?

A green "Verified with VAHAN" tick and whether your insurance and PUC are valid, expiring or expired, with dates. Never the policy or certificate number.

I renewed my insurance. How do I update it?

Press Re-check insurance & PUC on the vehicle card. The new dates are saved to the vehicle.

Why don't I see the verify button?

Verification appears only when MJX has switched it on. Until then, only the state and city are filled in from the plate.

Why can't I verify on the sign-up form?

A VAHAN check needs a VahanQR account. If your plan is free, the account is created when you finish signing up — then verify from your dashboard.

Why doesn't the result show the RC owner's name?

VahanQR never sends the name on the RC to the browser, so nobody can look up who owns a vehicle by typing its plate. It only tells you whether the name you entered matches.
