A VahanQR sticker only helps if someone can scan it and you get the alert. These habits, used by careful owners and well-run societies, make sure it works on the night your car is blocking a gate.

#Setup checklist for owners

  • Add an email to your account — your sticker, alerts and password reset all use it.
  • Add two emergency contacts who usually answer the phone.
  • Choose Light Privacy (most people) or Strict Privacy if your number must never be shown. See Privacy plans.
  • Add a clear vehicle photo so scanners know they have the right vehicle.
  • Print the sticker at actual size (3.5-inch round) on weatherproof material.
  • Stick it where a passer-by looks first, out of the driver's view.
  • Press Preview, then ask a family member to scan the real sticker and send a test message.
  • Tell your emergency contacts they may hear from VahanQR.

#Monthly checks

  • Open the Call Minutes card after the 1st, when free minutes reset. On Strict Privacy, keep a small paid balance as a buffer.
  • Read the Messages tab and reply to anything you missed.
  • Check the sticker is clean, not faded and still scans.
  • If your vehicle is verified, press Re-check insurance & PUC after any renewal.

#Best practices for societies

  • Hand out stickers with a register. Note the serial, the flat number and the date. The dashboard shows serial, vehicle and resident once activated.
  • Ask residents to add an email when activating, so they get their login and alerts.
  • Print only what you need. Download Free codes as a ZIP and print in batches.
  • Refresh the dashboard after a handing-out drive to see which codes are In use.
  • Keep the design consistent. Choose Society or Rent once, so every sticker in the building looks the same.
  • Share the guide Activate a pre-printed sticker in your residents' group.

#For people who scan

  • Send a message first for everyday issues — it reaches the owner even when they cannot take a call.
  • Give your real name and number so the owner can call back.
  • In an accident, call 108 first, then use the sticker to alert the family.

#Questions people ask

How often should I check my VahanQR account?

Once a month is enough — check your call minutes after they reset on the 1st, and read any messages.

What is the most common mistake?

Signing up without an email. Your sticker, alerts and password reset all use email.

Should I put my sticker inside or outside the glass?

Inside the windscreen facing out keeps it clean and safe from weather, as long as the glass is not heavily tinted.
